Uses of Empathy Maps
An empathy map encourages organizations to evaluate a product solution from the perspectives of their customers. In order to create successful products, designers need to understand the problems a client wants to solve and make it as easy as possible for them to achieve their goals.
Empathy maps are most beneficial for applying the insights you gain through user and market research. Although they’re an Agile design tool, you can also use empathy maps for marketing, sales, and other business goals. They’re frequently used to improve:
- User experience design
- Customer retention strategies
- Customer journey mapping
- Product testing and innovation
Our template includes four empathy quadrants to consider what clients ‘say and do,’ ‘think and feel,’ ‘see,’ and ‘hear.’ The two additional sections, ‘pain’ and ‘gain,’ are for comparing the challenges and benefits of using your products and services.
How to create your own Empathy Map
Start by opening the Empathy Map Template in Cacoo.
Remove any sections you don’t want to use, or relabel them if you prefer different category names.
Using a combination of data and brainstorming, fill in ideas on the sticky notes in each section.
Share the diagram with collaborators to get their input. Now, you have a handy visual reference for improving your product or service!
